[00:00:41] Welcome to Master Coach Mindset™. My name is Rhonda Britten. Today we're talking about “The Coaching Path.” Yep, what is your coaching path? What is your future looking like? What do you want it to look like? What do you want your coaching business to be about? You know, so many people become Coaches because they got inspired by being coached. Or they had a tremendous change in their life, and they wanted to share that change. Many people become Coaches because they're retiring from one career and they want to contribute everything they learned in that career to other people. Other people become Coaches because they just know that's what they're supposed to do. So many people, from so many different arenas of life, become Coaches. But we have one thing in common. We care about others. We want others to succeed. And we want them to achieve their greatness.
[00:01:35] Here at Fearless Living® I say that we help Clients become the person they were born to be. Because I believe that each one of us has everything we need inside, and our opportunity, our job, is to unleash that. That Client before us can shine in the way that is right for them, is true for them, is their authentic nature. I get so much joy out of watching a soul unfold. And that has been my honor for over two decades. Whether you're new to coaching, or whether you've been doing it for decades like me, I know that coaching can give you so much joy in your life, and financial reward, and freedom.
[00:02:18] What is your coaching path? You know, most people are just trained and believe that they have to have their own personal private practice. And in the last Episode, I talked about the things you need in order to do your private practice. But not everybody's meant to own their own business. And if you've never owned your own business, starting your own practice might feel a little scary. Well, if you don't know this already, there are so many places that invite Coaches into their businesses now. Corporations, wellness centers, schools, human resources, human resource centers, there are so many places that coaching can make an impact.
[00:02:58] I invite you to really think outside the box. If you've been an artist, then you can Coach an artist to train and become more true to their own essential nature, to their own art. We've had many Coaches in our Fearless Living that are nurses. And what do they do? Not only to coach people on their health, but they coach people in tragic and dire situations, when they have an illness. They help their family members. I have other Coaches that do sandwich generation, that help people figure out how to handle their parents and their kids at the same time. There literally is no closed door when it comes to coaching. I'm going to say that again, no closed doors when it comes to coaching. How do you find your niche or niche as they say? How do you find where you belong? Well, that's a journey that I invite you take.
[00:03:56] One great exercise to do that I invite you to do, is just keep track for the next three weeks of everything that you love. If it's smelling flowers, write it down. If it's helping others, write it down. If it's making crafts, write it down. Then on another piece of paper ... I'm going to itch my nose for a minute ... On another piece of paper, I want you to write down all your skills. Do a skill inventory. Not a job title inventory, but a skill inventory. Not the title, the skills. And yes, my cat definitely wants to be involved in the coaching path and has her path set out. Because she is my coaching cat, and she wants to be in this podcast today. Yes, yes, she wants to be here today, so we're going to let her.
[00:04:44] What is your coaching path? Like I said, there's wellness centers, there's cruise ships. I mean literally, nothing's off limits. Go ahead and do the exercise I just prescribed. On one piece of paper write all the things you love. And do it over the next three weeks. Not just today, not just tomorrow, let it simmer for a while. And the same thing with your skills list. Knowing that when you own your skills, and when you own what you love, I know things are going to start popping up. Like, maybe you want to coach dance studio owners. Or maybe you want to coach people with money issues. Or you want to coach people that don't have money issues that have a lot of money and help them embrace their abundance.
[00:05:26] Do you know there's lottery lawyers? Do you want to be a lottery Coach for those people that win the lottery? So like I said, there's no ... don't hold yourself back because there’s upsides and downsides to owning your own practice. The upside, of course, is you're in charge of your time, and in charge of how much money you make. Totally on you. The downside is that you're the one selling and providing the service usually. Now sure, you can have salespeople, but most solo entrepreneurs actually do the selling as well. The other downside is that you have to have your own insurance, your own medical, you don't get paid for off. You get no vacation time, etc. You are literally what manufactures the business as well as what sells the business.
[00:06:11] Of course, you can have a sales team. You can mitigate that in some ways, but owning your own private practice may not be what's right for you. In the Fearless Living Institute™, we actually have Coaches that go through our Life Coach Certification Program™ that are judges, ministers, doctors. Why do they become Coaches? Because they want to become more powerful, impactful communicators. We have a judge going through our program right now and what she's told me is that the questions she asks people when they come in front of her are completely different. The way she uses sentences is completely different and how she works with lawyers is completely different. Because she now knows the Eight Coaching Skills that I teach at Fearless Conversations™, and she also has had 75 Client hours. Supervised 75 Client hours. She actually knows the tools and the skills of Fearless Living so she can bring them into the courtroom.
[00:07:07] It doesn't mean you have to change careers. You can actually create the path of your dreams. Do that piece, do that exercise I gave you, all the things you love, and all the skills you have. I know that they're going to pop up. Let's say you want to be in private practice. Then I invite you to listen to the last Episode, Episode Seven. If you know that you don't want to have your own business, then you can join consulting firms, wellness centers, hospitals. Again, almost any business now is open to having coaches on staff, or on call. Use your imagination. Really look at that loves list and that skills list because I want you to thrive in your coaching path. I don't want it to be this, "Oh how am I going to get a Client?" I want you to be like, "Oh my God, I got a Client!" I want you to be excited to meet those future Clients. If you have your own private practice, going to networking meetings, and be proud of what you do, not scared of what you do.
[00:08:03] If you're scared to sell what you do, you’re not going to be very effective at selling it. Sure, do I believe in spiritual manifestation? You bet. Do I believe that when you meditate and focus on what's possible, it comes to you? Sure, but you want to be clear and specific about what really turns you on. This is the other thing that I want to tell you because I know that I've been, like I said, coaching for over two decades. One of the things that Coaches get caught up in is, once they have a niche, they can never change. Not true. Marie Forleo is a famous ... what can I call her. She's not a Coach. She's really a consultant and an interviewer. She started off doing dancing coaching. And then she went into relationship coaching. And then she went into business coaching. Because she just kept moving around until she found something that clicked.
[00:08:57] So many other famous trainers, speakers, and Coaches have done the same thing. It might take you two, three, or five incarnations. Now, that shouldn't scare you or freak you out, that should get you excited because every time that you practice one niche, you're getting closer to your true niche. And yes, it might change over the years. It might change over the years because you're going to change over the years. You have to honor your path. On the coaching path, it's honoring your path. I'm just going to talk a little bit about, as I get my notes up here. I want to give you some reminders about being a Coach as we complete this Season because this is the last Episode of the Season. I just want to remind you of a couple of things.
[00:09:46] One: In your coaching practice no matter how experienced or inexperienced you are, I want to remind you that you are moving a life forward. Not only your own, but your Client's and that is a gift and an opportunity. I consider it a high honor. As we say in Fearless Living, we hold somebody's hand until they can go off on their own. We hold, we support, we engage, we believe until they can believe in themselves. I know that's where your heart is somewhere like that if you are becoming a Coach or already a Coach. Let me just give you some reminders of what coaching really is about and some skills that you need to practice. If you've been listening to Master Coach Mindset for a while, you already know that you need a supervisor, you need a mentor to look over your Sessions.
[00:10:40] One of the things ... let me give this side note. One of the things that I'd like you to do is actually record your Sessions and then transcribe your Sessions. Whenever you're getting triggered, whenever you're lost, whenever you're confused, record those Sessions and then transcribe those Sessions. Listen, watch, read what you say, how you're triggered, what happens, so that you can become more masterful. Then, of course, everyone needs a mentor. In your first 100 hours, you need a mentor. And not a group mentor, a one-on-one mentor. So if you've never had one-on-one supervision, get some. That's going to be the fastest way for you to improve your coaching practice, and increase your income, confidence, and impact, the number one way. If you've graduated from a coaching program that does not have one-on-one mentoring, which I believe there's only three or four that actually make that available, for an extra fee by the way. Ours is included.
[00:11:43] If you have not had one-one-one, not group, but one-on-one mentoring or supervision, please do that now. Have them listen to your Session, so you can learn where you're getting triggered and what to do instead. Let me get to what I've been trying to for the last few minutes, which is just some reminders about being a Coach. I want to remind you to stay simple. We are complex human beings, but coaching is simple. Don't make it complicated, don't make it hard. Don't make yourself sound smart. The simpler, the better. Next, remember that people change because of how they feel, not because they have an intellectual experience. We don't want to get them in their head. We want to get them in their heart and their body so they can feel their way through.
[00:12:34] When you confront a Client or tell a Client they're wrong or tell a Client to quit doing something and just do this instead, that's not enrolling. You're not engaging them. Instead, you’re being a dictator; you're giving advice. That is not normally enrolling, and they're going to push back. That's your coaching, that's not them. So again, be simple. We're complex human beings but be simple. Two, get people out of their head and into their heart. Oh, by the way, if you've got somebody who's a feeling person and they feel, feel, feel, feel all the time, then yeah you got to actually get them in their head, get them to think about the process. The other thing that I want to say is remember, there's no labeling, no judging, no labeling, no judging. Your capacity to truly see someone's innocence and accept them for who they are, expands your consciousness, raises your consciousness and allows you to attract more perfect Clients for you, as well as changing your own life.
[00:13:39] You'll have more piece of mind, more empowerment, more love. No labeling and no judging. If you talk about your Clients like, "Oh, they're so slow," or, "Oh, they're so resistant," or ... that's you, that's your stuff. There's nothing wrong with them, that's you. That's your stuff. Remember, no labeling, and no judging. Always stay curious and interested in your Clients. Ask the questions. Yes, scripts and templates are guides, but put that template down and then use your intuition. Start practicing trusting yourself. How you do that, is to get curious and interested in their process. What is their process? It's the way they think, the way they feel, and the way they act. Everybody processes differently. We might have the same mechanics, but it shows up differently in each person. Help the Client understand how they process. When you do that, then, well let's just say their whole life changes. When you do that, you can actually change their filtering system, which the next thing I want you to remember.
[00:14:55] You're not there just to change their behavior, that will only last so long. New behaviors and new feelings only change so much. What you really want to do is change somebody's filtering system; how they see the whole world. Do they see it through fear? Do they see it through love? Do they see it through empowerment? Do they see it through oppression? How are they seeing the world? I ask this question all the time when I speak to audiences, or I teach workshops. Is the world for you or against you? Is the world for you or against you? Of course, everybody knows the right answer. Everybody knows the answer is, "The world is for me." And then I say the following, "Then why do you act like it's against you?" I ask the same of you, and I ask you to ask the same of your Clients. What are they for and what are they against? Do they believe the world's for them or do they believe the worlds against them? Do you believe the world is for you or the worlds against you?
[00:15:50] We all know the right answer but how do you live? Be attentive to staying curious and getting interested, and really being present with your Client. As we talked in an earlier Episode in this Season, we talked about getting centered. You've been able to be centered. To tackle your own life challenges allows you to have the courage, and confidence, and trust in yourself to allow your yourself, as a Coach, to help your Client do the same. That's why we're here. To help them tackle the problems in front of them. What they see as problems. Maybe we see it as opportunities and challenges. Regardless, they're coming to you because there's a problem in their life and the way they see it. They need help, they need support, and they need your guidance.
[00:16:38] It's not telling them what to do, but it's asking the questions that need to be asked so that they can evolve so they can wake up, so they can become more of who they're meant to be. We're here to help people solve the thing in front of them. The other thing we're here to give is deep compassion and empathy. So that they can be seen, that they can be believed in, and they can be understood. Understanding gets only so far. That's why we get to help them tackle life challenges and give them the tools and skills they need in order to become masterful in their life. Always remember to use role-playing, and you personally as a Coach, I invite you to always, always, always be improving your communication skills. Communication is the key for us to become more refined, have more discernment about what to say and when to say it, and how to say it.
[00:17:36] Get your butt to Fearless Conversations Workshop and go to other conversation classes. Learn non-violent communication and there's so many others. Fearless Conversations is the Eight Coaching Skills that I teach in my coaching. If you've liked this podcast, I bet you're going to love Fearless Conversations. Again, I really invite you to role-play. Your capacity to role-play equals your capacity to trust yourself. In a role-play, you're always playing the Client, and the Client is always playing the person they're scared of. So role-play, don't be afraid, go for it, role-play. Lastly, it's always better to assign one thing than three things. It's always better to help your Client do one thing well, and move forward in one thing than to give them too much and overwhelm them.
[00:18:26] It might make you feel like more of an amazing Coach for giving them so much to do but in fact, if your Client's overwhelmed or anxious they're not going to do any of it effectively. Be attentive to your Client's process. What's a process? How they feel, think, act. The way they feel, think and act, and what do they do when they're feeling this. What do they do? What do they think when they're thinking this? What do they feel, what do they do? Every person's different. Hear at Fearless Living, we focus on supporting someone and understanding how they process information. Once you understand how you process information, everything changes because then you have a choice. There's so many things we get to do as a Coach. That we get the honor of doing. I invite you to really embrace that.
[00:19:13] Right now, if you're not having as many Clients as you'd like or you're afraid to go get those Clients, or you're still trying to get your office perfect, I invite you to put that all aside, and jump in and just start coaching. The more coaching you do… don't worry about your niche, don't worry about your branding, don't worry about any of that right now. Just start coaching. The more coaching under your belt, the more you're going to know your niche, the more you're going to understand what you do best. Understand yourself and have the confidence to get those Clients the results that they're looking for. Put of all those questions aside. That's what's happening out in the coaching world right now. It's so bombarded with, "Get your business, get your business, get your business." And there's not enough focus on, "Get your Clients, get your Clients, get your Clients and just Coach."
[00:20:02] If I could tell you one thing in my two decades plus of coaching, the one thing that's going to support you more than anything else is just Coach. When you start doing that, everything changes. I can't wait to meet you in person. I can't wait to hold your hand or hug you, and I can't wait to see you blossom. Wherever you are in your coaching profession, wherever you are in your coaching practice, I know that you're one step closer to becoming the Coach you're meant to be. If you haven't listened to all three Seasons of Master Coach Mindset, get your butt and go do that now. Start with Episode One through Season One. Listen to the whole Coaching Manifesto. In Season Two I talk about the Eight Coaching Skills that you'll learn in person and more in-depth and integrate and embody at the Fearless Conversations Workshop.
[00:20:54] Season Three has been about The Making of a Coach. If you listen and embody the homework inside the Insider's Club, I'm knowing that you're going to have more confidence, make a bigger impact, and have more influence. Not only in your own life but that of your Clients. Until next time, be the Coach you were born to be. In order to do that, I know you're going to practice being Fearless.
Until next time, do just that, Be Fearless.

[00:00:41] Welcome to Master Coach Mindset™. My name is Rhonda Britten. Today we're talking about “The Coaching Path.” Yep, what is your coaching path? What is your future looking like?
