I know its been confusing for so many folks, including me, when it comes to the question: Is Starting Over coming back for a fourth season? The answer is no.
What’s confusing is that it has never been officially cancelled by NBC Universal. In every interview I’ve read they always say something about ‘not being sure about the fate of Starting Over.’ And to add to the confusion, I have never received a call from NBC or Bunim-Murray regarding its fate or even discussing the possibilities. So I, just like you, had to wait…and wait…and wait.
Starting Over had until June 30th to pick up my contract for another year and since they failed to do it, and I’m still living in Colorado rather than shooting the show somewhere which I would normally be doing by now, that lets me know Starting Over is not coming back.
Now on some level that saddens me. I gave my heart, my soul and my creativity (coming up with exercise after exercise day-after-day) to the ladies of the Starting Over house for three seasons. Season One I taped 210 episodes (that is about the same number of episodes Friends filmed over ten years), Season Two it was about 185 (we got better) and Season Three we got it down to 175 episodes.
I taped more one hour segments than most prime time shows do in their lifetime. Overall, I have been the Life Coach on Starting Over for more than 570 episodes and don’t forget the two years I was the Life Coach on ‘Help Me Rhonda” in the United Kingdom.
What that means to me is I am accepting that I know how to make television and change lives everyday all day long. I am grateful for the last five years I have shared what I know on the small screen and am grateful for both shows giving me the opportunity to do just that and now I am ready for more.
I’m not sure how my future will unfold. I don’t know when I will be on television on a regular basis again but you can be sure it is something I am open to…and working on.
So please, have no fear. Right now you can practice what I taught the women on Starting Over right here at the Fearless Living Institute. Read Fearless Living, attend a Fearless Foundation Weekend (I rarely teach and am teaching two workshops this fall) or join a Fearbuster Group. There is support. There are tools. They are right here. Pick them up and use them. You can be fearless with or without Starting Over because the work begins with you.
Starting Over was a good support tool but it didn’t do the work for you. So begin today. As I told them the women everyday in the Starting Over house, “Trust the process, practice being fearless and your life will change.”
