Mom's BuickThat’s the car she died in.
The car she paid for with her own money.
The car she bought after getting her driver’s license at 35 years old.
That car saved her.

It’s amazing how important our choices are.

Maybe you don’t think too much about every single choice you make throughout the day. What to eat. What to wear. What to say. Where to go.

Most people focus on WHAT they want and WHERE they want to go rather than the HOW.

How do you want to say it when the words gotta be tough?
How do you share your heart while using your head?
How do you want to be remembered?

It’s loving the HOW that makes us happy.
It’s owning the HOW that gives us peace.
It’s doing your HOW fearlessly that turns a mediocre life into a magnificent one.

HOW do YOU want to show up for the rest of YOUR life?

Mother’s Day is coming up and in honor of my mother, if I may, I’ll be sending you some stories and musings about what my mother taught me and how it changed my life. (Perhaps it will change yours too!)

Oh, before I forget. You might be wondering how that car saved my mother.

That car – that beautiful, yellow-orange mess of a car – was proof that she had chosen herself for the first time in her life. It was proof that she had heard her own voice and had a right to be happy.

It wasn’t easy. My mom had to work for that car.

She had to learn how to drive at 35 years old (BIG DEAL).
She had to save up money to afford it (bank teller salary).
She had bought it in her own name with no credit to speak of (a REALLY BIG DEAL!)

When my mother died, she didn’t die wishing she was someone else or wondering what was wrong with her or waiting for something outside of her to change. NOPE. Not my mom.

By the way, that wasn’t the way my mom was for most of her life. For most of her life, she had no voice of her own but not on the day she died.

On the day she died, she was wholly herself. That car signified to the world – and to herself – she was free.

I just remembered a funny story about my mother in that car. I will share that with you tomorrow.

Mother’s Day is coming up. How’s your relationship with your mother?

Until next time, Be Fearless.

P.S. Oh, one more thing. My one-time-only workshop: Fearless You: The Voice of Freedom is right around the corner.

This would have surely been my mother’s favorite workshop.
